Awards

The NaCOPRW - NYC CHAPTER College Award is an honors award which is conferred yearly by the National Conference of Puerto Rican Women, Inc., New York City Chapter, to two or more Puerto Rican women, residents of New York City, who are qualified undergraduate college students. The College Award is attained on the basis of financial need, educational achievement and community involvement, and it is presented to the successful candidate at NaCOPRW's New York City Chapter Annual Dinner Dance. Applicants for the NaCOPRW College Award must meet the following criteria, among others:

  1. Be currently matriculated in an accredited institution of higher education, and having earned at least 12 accumulated credits.
  2. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 with no failing grades.
  3. Demonstrate service to the community.
  4. Provide an official college transcript.
  5. Provide two letters of recommendation from a professor, college advisor, employer or supervisor.

The College Award Committee reviews only those applications that are submitted with the above requirements. Efforts to establish funds for the NaCOPRW College Award began in 1992 when the New York City Chapter of NaCOPRW celebrated its 19th Anniversary with a Dinner Dance on September 18, 1992. Each year, College Awards are presented to Puerto Rican women who were selected for their academic excellence and service to the community.
